These are some of the photos I took while gathering
material for my book, Twelve
Walks Around Olympia: Enjoying Washington's Capital City.
1. View from Thurston County Courthouse 2. The White House, one of the more elegant homes of Olympia's Eastside. 3. Downtown, the Spar cafe is an Olympia landmark. 4. View from the capitol building, looking north. The distant mountains on the horizon are the Olympics. 5. One of the pleasures of walking around Olympia is looking at the boats. 6. "The Kiss," a statue at the docks. People sometimes put flowers in the woman's hands.
7. A poignant memorial to Korean War veterans, which captures the sense of the intense cold they had to endure. 8. Washington's Vietnam War memorial is a smaller cousin of the famous one in the other Washington. 9. The Public Works Department has a little park next to it, with several delightful bits of art like this one. 10. Nearby Nisqually Delta offers great bird-watching. 11. I'm trying to find an overgrown trail in the Capitol Forest 12. The gentle curves of the Mima Mounds. How they were formed is a hotly-debated mystery.
